I can’t think of a better person to help kick off our Brother Thomas Guest Artist Gallery.

In a few weeks Bryan’s illustration will be joined by other images inspired by “The Temptation of Brother Thomas” story.  Whatever turns up in the following weeks you can be sure they’ll be nothing like the first.

For most of you Bryan Ballinger needs no introduction.   Bryan is one of the most creative people on the planet.  Everything he touches from children’s picture books to food bombs, has his own unique spin on it.  I’ve been working and teaching with Bryan for well over 10 years now.  He’s been a constant reminder to stay off the beaten path.  For Bryan it’s a matter of principle!

Bryan Ballinger grew up in rural Vermont and loved the government surplus peanut butter served in his grade school cafeteria. He is an avid collector of vintage recipes, absurd non-perishable food items, and music played by animals. Bryan has been a professional illustrator and cartoonist for over 20 years, which he enjoys much more than his stint shoveling out chicken coops. (Chickens are nice enough, it’s the roosters you have to watch out for!) He has an MFA in writing for young people and currently teaches illustration and digital media arts at Huntington University in Indiana. And even though the peanut butter isn’t runny, he still eats in the cafeteria.

You can see his portfolio at http://www.bryanballinger.com and his illustration blog at http://www.breadwig.com
