CG Layout: Scriptorium Part 1-Modeling

I’m finally getting around to posting on CG Layout! I’ve been wanting to get this post up for a while but explaining the process can be a tad complicated.
These images are of a 3D computer model of the Scriptorium that Br. Thomas works in. The model was built to scale by Kyle Murray, based on Michael Spooner’s design and my storyboards. You can read more about Kyle and his work below.
This is a top down view of the Scriptorium in wireframe. Basically this serves as a map of the entire space.
From this side view you can get a sense of scale. Notice a scale model of Br. Thomas sitting at his easel to work.
You can see the stained glass saints as you enter the Scriptorium.
This view is from the Saints perspective. Notice Br. Thomas’ easel on the lower right of the frame.
Kyle “the Gamer” Murray is a senior at Huntington University who will be graduating this spring. His specialty is 3D modeling and was brought on to the Br. Thomas project as 3D layout artist after his exceptional work in layout for the 3D student short film, Fire Flower.
Kyle’s job was to create a 1:1 scale 3D model of the Hall of Church Fathers and the Scriptorium in the cathedral for the purposes of understanding how the 2D storyboards will translate into 3D space before construction on the actual sets begins.
You can check out the cool game Kyle has been working on and see more of his artwork here.
